Recent History
The System has been changing rapidly throughout it's life, so much that it is still improving now. Here are some ways that there system is improving in recent history:
February 22, 2004- Full subway service returns to Manhattan bridge for first time since 1986, following extensive bridge prepares.
May 21, 2004- Train service returns to Coney Island after 21-month hiatus during construction.
October 27,2004- New York celebrates 100th anniversary of subway's in 1904.
September 26,2006- NYPD announces subway crime is at it's lowest in 37 years.
February 3, 2009- MTA announces new online Lost & Found web page which enables customers to report and track items lost on the subway.
June 29, 2009- New York City Transit introduces EcoSaver IV bus, it has fewer parts, it is a quieter and has lower emissions than other buses.
June 3, 2010- A solar thermal system, mounted on the rooftop of NYC Transit's Overhaul shop in Coney Island.
March 23, 2012- 100th street bus depot becomes Tuskegee Airmen Bus Depot in honor of WWII African-American military pilots.
June 10, 2012- Because of fully-integrated Community-Based Train control on the "L" line, which provides the ability to run more trians per hour, New York Transit adds 98 weekly round trips.
